Одной лунной ночью в отдаленной исследовательской лаборатории ученые делают открытие, которое может совершить переворот в современной медицине, но одновременно с этим может вызвать смертельные последствия. Ученые создают химическое вещество для выявления раковых клеток и для их уничтожения. Опыты проводятся на грызунах. Случайно происходит утечка испытуемого вещества из контейнера с отходами. Оно попадает в подвал… Теперь белые мышки в лаборатории наверху являются не единственными грызунами в здании, которые участвуют в эксперименте. Добровольцами поневоле становятся также огромные крысы из подвала, которые мутируют под воздействием вещества… Ничего не подозревающий профессор Шульц продолжает вести эксперимент. Он вводит трем разным грызунам разную дозу вещества для уничтожения раковых опухолей, а остатки снова выбрасывает в злосчастный сломанный контейнер. Следует нечто ужасное. Изобретенное вещество было запрограммировано на выявление и уничтожение раковых клеток, а теперь крысы запрограммированы на обнаружение и уничтожение людей… Наступает ночь ужаса, ночь крыс-убийц.
