Много времени прошло с момента войны во Вьетнаме, но одна из самых болезненных проблем американского общества сохраняется: две с половиной тысячи американских солдат числятся пропавшими без вести, семьи и близкие ничего не знают о судьбе этих солдат и офицеров. Ползут слухи, что некоторые военнопленные до сих пор находятся в лагерях на территории Вьетнама и содержатся там в нечеловеческих условиях, жестоко эксплуатируются и подвергаются истязаниям. Правительство принимает решение прояснить ситуацию о собирает специальную комиссию, которая должна будет поехать во Вьетнам и провести проверку. В комиссию приглашают полковника Джеймса Брэддока, ветерана войны во Вьетнаме. Джеймс Брэддок сам хлебнул горя во вьетнамском плену, где его с группой других американских военнослужащих содержали 10 лет уже после окончания войны во Вьетнаме. Брэддок проявил тогда невероятный героизм, ему удалось в одиночку завладеть оружием, захватить лагерь и организовать побег своих сослуживцев, которые благополучно вернулись домой… Именно из-за этого подвига Брэддока пригласили в комиссию, но власти даже и не подозревали, как именно будет действовать этот делегат на территории Вьетнама…
