Ежедневно во всем мире атомные электростанции производят огромное количество радиоактивных отходов, которые помещаются во временные хранилища, уязвимые и для стихийных бедствий, и для техногенных катастроф. Первое в мире постоянное хранилище радиоактивных отходов создается в Финляндии – его высекают в скале. Это разветвленная система туннелей, где отходы могут храниться 100000 лет, то есть столько, сколько остаются радиоактивными. Когда хранилище заполнится, его запечатают, чтобы никогда больше не открывать. Но возможно ли предупредить наших далеких потомков о смертельной опасности, которую будут представлять эти отходы еще много тысяч лет, и не допустить вскрытия захоронения как очередной пирамиды, таинственной гробницы или сокровищницы? Будут ли потомки понимать наш язык и оставленные нами символы? И если да, будут ли они следовать этим инструкциям? И пока огромные машины выдалбливают в скале туннели, эксперты стремятся найти пути решения этой важнейшей задачи – обеспечить безопасность человечества не только сейчас, но и на тысячелетия вперед.
