Полицейский инспектор Капуана расследует убийство супруги известного военного, которая была обнаружена обнаженной и выпотрошенной в номере шикарного отеля. Полицейский жалуется своей жене, что везде натыкается на стену молчания в своем расследовании. Никто из ближайшего окружения жертвы не хочет ничего рассказывать. Инспектору Капуана не остается ничего другого, как искать убийцу среди традиционно неблагополучного криминально ориентированного контингента: проституток, мелких преступников, гомосексуалистов, бездомных, хиппи. Но вскоре обнаруживают еще одну женщину, принадлежащую к высшему классу, которая была жестоко убита на пляже лунной ночью. Она также изменяла своему мужу, о чем свидетельствовали фотографии, оставленные на ее трупе. Среди представителей высшего общества начинает распространяться паника. Но, тем не менее, между обсуждений очередного убийства, богатые дамочки не прекращают предаваться самым разнообразным любовным утехам. Вскоре появляется третья жертва, и инспектор Капуана понимает, что убийца каким-то образом должен быть связан с высшим обществом.
